Shangri-La: September 1

It’s going to be a doozer, and a charity benefit, so please plan on bringing a donation with you. This is 58 Gallery’s first stab at returning to concerts since Jersey City passed a bogus and threatening new ordinance making it very difficult to put on a show (as well as writing the gallery a ticket for throwing a party without a live entertainment permit). Dancing Tony jumped through the hoops, got the permits, the block will be closed, and we’re ready to rumble. We hope you can make it.

Oh by the way, in addition to the upcoming Shangri-La show on September 1, we have just added a show This Friday Night at the Iron Monkey in Jersey City. I have actually updated the shows page for a change, so all the new fun time information is going on there.
Word has it, the Shangri-La party will be 12 bands on a closed off block. Rumor also has it that one of those other bands will be American Watercolor Movement.
We’ll be in touch when we’ve got more details.
The One And Only Typicals will be joining us at the Clash Bar on September 14th. Awesome.
So that show in New Brunswick at Courtlandt-Land was fantastic. Can’t give enough thanks to Nat and Lenny and the other residents for having us, and Jacki for putting us on the bill. There was a really good turn-out for the show, and we really seemed to connect with the audience. There’s nothing more fantastic when a roomful of people is looking to dance than to have them dancing to your music! Andrew-kun wrote a laudatory blog post:
They danced, we danced. They sweat, we sweat. As Adam screamed “Rock for Jesus! Rock rock for Jesus!” a Christian girl dancing in front of me said, “Oh, fuck it!” and dropped to her knees to give her boyfriend a blowjob. People loved, skies opened, and life puddled at our feet. They have tons of energy, more chops than a steak house on a Saturday afternoon, and enough testosterone to turn an army of men into fierce, hairy woolly mammoths. Assuming no one in the band gets into heroin or ice, assuming the dudes keep on waking up each day and deciding to play, we’ll all be as small as ants in their stadium crowds a few years down the road.
Thanks, dude, much appreciated.
We’re making a first serious road adventure this week. Thursday night we’ve been kindly added to an already-packed bill at the Spazzatorium Galleria in Greenville, NC. Friday night we’ll be up to mayhem in Durhman, NC staying with one Ben Jones. We might be playing a party, too. Saturday night we’re playing with our southerly brethren Oh No They Didn’t at Little Kings in Athens, GA. And then we’ll be home in time for work on Monday. It’s gonna be a blast.
Looks like our next local appearance will be at 58 Gallery’s Shangri-La event on Sept 1st and 2nd in Jersey City! Not sure which day we’re playing just yet, but we’re very excited to be back on the bill (we had to bail when the earlier date was when we’d be away). Shangri-La (and Dancing Tony) got a write-up in the Jerz Journal, which should help turn out, too.
