Musing, Shows — Billy Gray on April 29, 2008 at 10:31 am

I’ve been obsessively listening to Calexico’s full-length The Black Light.  I’m going to go pay for their music on eMusic right now.  I’ve flirted with the band in the past, but as my opposition to things tinged with country has all but disappeared (it is indeed a long, slippery slope), I find myself getting really really into this group.  Check out “Missing”, and “Minas de Crobre (For Better Metal)” on The Black Light to have your heart broken, and then enlivened by the most beautiful trumpets of melancholy triumph.

Let’s all run away to the desert.

Oh, btw, we’re playing again in Jersey City this Saturday, at Canco Lofts, for two and a half hours!  There will be an electric set, an acoustic set, and another electric set.  I’ll post more details once I wake up a bit.

Powerhouse Arts District Fundraiser

Shows — Adam N. Copeland on April 6, 2008 at 6:20 pm

From the PADNA website:

What’s The PAD?
Powerhouse Arts District. The PAD will serve as an important component of Jersey City’s cultural and entertainment industry. The provision of work/live space and related amenities serve as a business incubator to the artist community. The agglomeration of arts based startup enterprises and studios of established artists enables a sharing of resources, exchange of ideas, and building of social networks and support systems that will support the artist community as an economic enterprise. This community in turn will support the local economy through purchase of both personal and business items, and by attracting new visitors to Jersey City who also purchase goods and services. The broader Jersey City economy will benefit from the attraction of new patrons, and from the economic diversification.

What’s PADNA?

The Powerhouse Arts District Neighborhood Association (PADNA), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, was created in March, 2006 to provide a forum for PAD residents to report, learn about, consider, take positions on, and act on issues of local concern.

PADNA is hosting the POWERHOUSE benefit to raise awareness of the promise of the PAD:
